Futuroscope

A new ambitious CDA plan to transform Futuroscope

The Vienne Department Council has selected the ambitious project submitted by the teams of the Société Anonyme du Parc de Futuroscope (SAPF), a company in which Compagnie des Alpes has a controlling interest and which currently operates the Futuroscope facility, for the implementation of a new 30-year lease. A transformative project for the current Futuroscope facility and its extension will be carried within the framework of this new lease. The aim of this project is to strengthen the appeal of Futuroscope as an exceptional short-stay destination in France and in Europe. The lease should be signed by the end of September and will go into effect in January 2021.

In late 2019, the Vienne Department launched a bid for the operation of its current Futuroscope site and for the creation and operation of a new activity zone adjacent to it. The ambitious project submitted by SAPF, representative of a group alongside the SEM Patrimoniale de la Vienne and Caisse des Dépôts, via the Banque des Territoires, was chosen. It has two major components:
  • The offering of the current Futuroscope site will be reinforced and densified, via an investment plan totaling €200M over the next 10 years, carried by SAPF. In particular, this plan calls for the deployment of three major attractions between now and 2025, but also the renovation of outdoor facilities, green spaces, new animations, and an array of original and diverse restaurant options.
  • Next to the historic site, the so-called “Futuroscope 2” project integrates two themed hotels and an aqua park, completing the experience offered by Futuroscope to its clients. Investments totaling €104M will be carried by a new company, Futur Resort, jointly held by SEM Patrimoniale de la Vienne and Banque des Territoires. SAPF will ensure the delegated project management for this new zone and later for its operation under the terms of a new lease, also for 30 years (to 2050).

COMPAGNIE DES ALPES REINFORCES STAKE IN THE COMPANY THAT OPERATES FUTUROSCOPE

The Futuroscope site is currently operated by Société Anonyme du Parc du Futuroscope (SAPF), a company in which Compagnie des Alpes has a 45.55% equity stake. Other equity partners include SEM Patrimoniale de la Vienne, 38.73% (it is 79.73% owned by the Vienne Department and 14.93% owned by Banque des Territoires); Banque des Territoires (14,27%), and itself (1.45%).

Within the context of the transformation of Futuroscope, SEM Patrimoniale de la Vienne has expressed its desire to sell its 20% interest in the operator SAPF. As a result, Compagnie des Alpes and Banque des Territoires will each acquire an additional 10% in Société Anonyme du Parc du Futuroscope.

When the transaction is completed, SAPF will be 55.55% owned by Compagnie des Alpes; 18.73% by SEM Patrimoniale de la Vienne; 24.27% by Banque des Territoires, and 1.45% by itself.

Commenting on this event, Dominique Marcel, Chairman and CEO of Compagnie des Alpes, stated: “We are particularly delighted that this project is coming together today. With the Vienne Department and the Caisse des Dépôts, via the Banque des Territoires, we share the same vision for the future of Futuroscope and our ambition is to maintain and consolidate the position of Futuroscope among the most attractive parks in France. Despite the major crisis we are traversing, Compagnie des Alpes intends to durably pursue its ambitious investment strategy in order to develop the appeal of its sites for the benefit of its clients and all stakeholders in the regions and countries where it operates.”
